Welcome back y’all, today’s recipe for this delicious Cranberry Orange Bisconie is one to be desired! This recipe is a copycat from Costco, but, made with natural ingredients. I don’t know about you, but I love recipes that are copycats yet made with all-natural ingredients. Additionally, I love making our food from scratch so that I know where my ingredients come from.

My first time making these Bisconies, I fell in love! Also, I love making delicious recipes I can keep around to snack on here and there. Although it’s so easy for me to pick up a box of processed snacks at the store, I am trying to be more mindful about the things I make in our home with only the necessary ingredients. Once you start, it’s hard to stop! So far, I’ve learned so many new things in the kitchen and I just keep building on!

What are Bisconies?

So, what are Bisconies you ask? Bisconies are an Italian breakfast pastry, they’re a mix between a scone and a biscotti. They’re so delicious and easy to make, such a great way to add a new recipe to your home. Additionally, they’re an excellent pastry to have on hand.

This Cranberry Orange Bisconie Costco Recipe is made with frozen cranberries, but, you can use fresh cranberries or dried cranberries. Also, Bisconies are softer than traditional biscotti, it is the best thing dunked in coffee or tea! With this recipe, there are no artificial flavors, or anything unnatural—just a simple tasty treat for the upcoming cooler months.

How to make the Delicious Cranberry Orange Bisconie

To make this tasty crowd favorite, you will only need a few tools and a couple of simple ingredients. The tools you will need for this cranberry orange bisconie recipe are:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Pastry blender or fork
  • Zester
  • Basting brush
  • Baking sheet

Now, for the ingredients. This recipe is so simple, here are the few ingredients you will need:

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp of additional melted butter
  • 1/4 cup raw sugar (or turbinado sugar)
  • 1 tsp orange zest (to give it that orange flavor)
  • 1 cup whole milk (cold) (or 1 cup of buttermilk)
  • 1 tsp salt

Making the orange cranberry bisconie:

There is very little preparation time for this favorite recipe, to start you will just need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then while your oven is preheating, mix your Bisconie dough.

In a large bowl, whisk together your dry ingredients. Add your cups of flour, baking powder, baking soda, 1/4 cup sugar, and salt.

Next, add in the cold butter and cut it with a fork or pastry blender. Then, add in your whole milk and lemon zest. Mix well until everything is combined and a soft dough forms.

On a lightly floured countertop, pour the dough onto the counter and knead in the fresh (or frozen) cranberries. Once kneaded, flatten out the dough and cut into squares, triangles, or circles. Your preference! I am doing rough triangles. Also, I love the rustic look of the uneven triangles.

Brush melted butter on top of the Bisconies before placing in the oven. It’s also optional to add additional lemon zest and brown sugar.

Place them on an ungreased baking sheet, and place them into your preheated oven. Bake them in the oven for 15-20 min or until golden brown.

Once they are out of the oven, transfer them to a wire cooling rack and serve when cool!

These will have a crumbly texture and that’s how they’re supposed to be!

Ways to serve the delicious cranberry orange bisconies

Serve this sweet treat with ice cream, coffee, tea, you name it! You could also top these with some delicious cream cheese, or in a small bowl, whip up an orange glaze, or maple syrup! The tart cranberries go with just about anything and it’s the perfect breakfast/brunch treat.

Don’t forget that these are also a much healthier and more simplified version of the Costco bisconies! So, it makes them the perfect addition to your healthy snack routine. They come great when you’re in a pinch and need something sweet and flaky.

Additionally, if you’re having a tea party, these would be a hit. I love eating one of these for breakfast on my way out the door first thing in the morning.

How To Store And Freeze The Costco Bisconie Recipe

If by some miracle, you don’t eat these all in one sitting (Ha!) you can wrap them in plastic wrap and place them in the fridge. Or, you can leave them on the countertop in an airtight container. These will last 3-5 days both ways.

If you want to freeze them, just place them either in a freezer-safe container or, wrap in plastic wrap then in tinfoil, and place them in the freezer. These will last up to three months in the freezer. To thaw, just set them out until they have reached room temperature.
