Open Range 337RLS

rv type: fifth wheel trailer

I am selling my 2009 Open Range 337RLS fifth wheel camper trailer. I am the second owner of this recreational vehicle and really like it; the only reason that I am selling is because I would like to take a motorcycle or two when traveling (toy hauler planned).

The model number refers from the floor plan's square footage (337 square feet). Although this is a fairly short RV (33.5' overall, makes maneuvering easy), there are three slide-outs and it is quite spacious inside when they are deployed. For roadside stops, though, all of the essentials are accessible with the slides in, which is really convenient and unique among its peers.

I have the trailer set up for long-distance travel and several-day stays in isolated places without hook-ups ("boondocking"; huge holding tanks and a full-fledged solar setup), but it would be just as much at home in established RV parks (it even has 50 A service) or as a semi-permanent installation somewhere. It is incredibly easy to tow and even does well over uneven ground owing to its high ground clearance. The unit is designed to handle rather cold weather with an enclosed/heated underbelly, powerful furnace, and excellent insulation all around. There is an abundance of storage onboard; no space is wasted.

Features

  • Dexter E-Z Flex rubber suspension system
  • Under-mounted spare wheel/tire (full-size)
  • Lippert Pin Box, 15500 lb capacity
  • Built-in kingpin stabilizer legs (2)
  • Wide-stance power front jack legs with adjustable, spring-loaded jack pins
  • Remote power rear stabilizer jacks
  • Norco Industries / B. A. L. Accu-Slide slide-outs (it's a clever, cable-driven system instead of the usual trouble-prone rack-and-pinion)
  • Awnings over each slide-out protect from water intrusion
  • R-28 insulated roof including Flexfoil
  • Maxxair vent covers on all three roof vents
  • Two-inch, five-layer laminated walls (R-9)
  • High-gloss automotive metallic-finished exterior walls
  • 80%-tinted safety glass windows
  • Contoured front cap for air flow and tight turning radius
  • Extended gutter spouts
  • Welded aluminum superstructure (walls and floor)
  • Fully-enclosed underbelly
  • Heated and enclosed holding tanks and dump valves
  • In-floor heated, enclosed, and insulated water lines
  • Six-layer flooring (“Plylite” plywood, tubular aluminum floor joists, R-7 fiberglass batting, R-14 Flexfoil insulation, Darco underbelly sheeting, 0.25’’ corrugated polypropylene)
  • 97% temperature-reflective foil in slide floors
  • Double-insulated 1’’ thick baggage doors with rounded corners, continuous, one-piece hinge, and interior fasteners
  • Heated exterior pass-through storage bay
  • TV mount in pass-through storage bay with power and TV connection

Upgrades
  • Both axles replaced with 7,000-lb units (originally 4,400-lb); new eight-lug wheels and tires
  • Solar system (see below) can run any of the appliances without shore power.
  • Reverse osmosis water filtration system for drinking water with spout in kitchen
  • Under-mounted long sewer hose storage
  • Auxiliary propane heater in main living area (the main furnace is plenty to heat the whole trailer, but it wastes some heat)
  • Back-up lights
  • Fresh water accumulator tank
  • All interior lamps have been replaced with LEDs.
  • Numerous other little small things that make routine use convenient

Solar System (the panels are included in the sale price; the rest is an optional extra $5000)
  • Panels: monocrystalline, 12 x 100 W
  • 24-V subsystem
  • Charge controller: MPPT, 60 A
  • Inverter/charger: 6000 W continuous, 24 V DC / 120/240 V AC, split-phase, pure sine wave, remote panel
  • Shore power surge protector (Southwire Surge Guard, 50 A, with remote display)
120-V-AC-to-24-V-DC converter (37.5 A) so you can still run everything with limited (15 A) shore power, if necessary
  • 24-V-DC-to-12-V-DC converter (70 A) to run all of the DC equipment off the battery bank
  • Battery bank (in addition to the one house battery): six BCI group 31 batteries in series-parallel configuration for nominal 24 V
  • Shunts (two) with remote displays for monitoring the 12-V and 24-V subsystems and battery banks
  • All high-amp circuits are protected, mostly with breakers rather than fuses.
  • All wiring is sized appropriately to minimize voltage drop and for safety.
  • The system is well-documented.

Specifications
  • 33' 6'' long
  • 153'' high
  • 100'' wide
  • GVWR 10740 lb (as originally equipped)
  • 10 gal gas/electric DSI water heater
  • Holding tanks:
    • ~75 gal fresh water, in addition to the water heater's capacity
    • 2 gal filtered water
    • 45 gal gray water
    • 45 gal black water

  • 31,000 BTU furnace
  • 15,000 BTU air conditioner
  • 50 A electrical service (shore power connection)
  • 1200 W of solar panels

As above, I am the second owner of this travel trailer, and both of us took great care of it.
Routine maintenance has included:
  • Stored covered or indoors most of the time that it has not been in use (a cover is included in the sale price)
  • Walls cleaned and treated most years
  • Side penetrations/components re-sealed most years
  • Roof cleaned and treated most years
  • Roof penetrations/margins re-sealed most years with self-leveling lap sealant
  • Hubs lubricated, periodically
  • Tires replaced, when needed; most recently replaced 2.5 years ago with about 80% tread life remaining (they are in great shape)
  • Brakes adjusted, as necessary
  • Slide cables replaced, when needed; adjustments as needed
  • Lots of other minor maintenance to keep things working smoothly and appropriately

As you can tell, not only was the RV a premium/luxury product to begin with, it has been well-kept and enhanced.

All of the appliances work, without any issues. All of the lights work. All awnings and jacks work. Fire extinguishers and smoke/CO detectors are current.

The title is in-hand and in my name. The trailer has current registration in Ohio.

I can deliver this trailer for a reasonable additional cost.

If you have any questions or are interested, please feel free to e-mail me at the address at the top of the posting.
